All couples have disagreements, whether expressed or unexpressed, that can lead to relationship problems. Fortunately, couples’ counseling has developed in the last 10 years to the point that we are able to strategically target patterns of behavior that are harmful, support those that are helpful and teach techniques that may make a profound difference in relationships no matter what issues you bring.
Get unstuck and solve problems
With the exception of pre-marital counseling, by the time most people consider consulting with a couples’ therapist, they have tried many strategies to solve their problems and are often feeling “stuck” and frustrated. As your therapist I have a unique vantage point from which I can be a coach and a “neutral” observer. Additionally, I bring new skills and experiment into your relationship to enable you to change patterns that are no longer working and support positive changes you may have already put into place. Some couples are able to change only after understanding the history of their interaction; others need only develop and sustain targeted behaviors.
Couples counseling for all stages of life
Issues commonly addressed in couples’ therapy include: pre-marital counseling, relationship and communication skills, creating intimacy and passion, bi-cultural relationship dynamics (including religious differences), dual careers, long-distance relationships, the impact of gender roles and differences, anger management, trust, life transitions, illness, unemployment, childrearing, remarriage challenges, boundaries with extended family, and dealing with betrayal/infidelity.
In those situations where separation and/or divorce are contemplated, therapy may either help rescue the relationship or help each partner deal with their losses in a less harmful manner.
